Engaging with us

We want to hear from as many people as possible about how they want the Commission to work in practice. To help us with this, our Chief Commissioner is meeting with many groups reflecting a wide range of communities and views. We’re also carrying out public surveys and drawing on what people tell us in these surveys to develop plans and proposals for how to do our work, which we’re publishing so that people can comment.

You can find out more about our engagement work below.

Our surveys

We run public surveys to gather individual views on a wide range of topics including our design principles, the experience of engaging with the Commission and what the Commission might be able to deliver at the end of the process. We also analyse the information we gather and use it to help us develop our policies and procedures, to make sure the Commission works for everyone.

We’ve already carried out our first ‘Have Your Say’ survey and published the results. We’re drawing on what people told us in developing plans for how the Commission will do its information recovery work.

Our second survey asks about independence, conditional immunity and the detailed design of what the Commission might look like. We will only ever use the data to help us with our work planning how the Commission will operate – see our privacy notice.

Publications and plans

We regularly publish ideas and proposals for comment. You can find our publications in the Documents section of our website. Right now, you can input into our consultation on the trauma-informed approach we want to take to our work and on our draft Disability Action Plan.

Meeting with us

We’re meeting with a wide range of organisations and groups to discuss how we should do our work and hear our views.

We have also met with some families and individuals who have been affected by incidents related to the Troubles/Conflict. We have offered to meet with many more and we are always ready to talk to people.

We understand that engaging in an information recovery process may involve talking about deeply painful losses and traumas. Learning from other organisations, there are several ways in which the Commission could offer people emotional support, working with professionals trained in working with trauma and loss. Commission staff will be meeting with experts on this subject from across Northern Ireland to help ensure the best possible understanding of what is needed.
