About us

The importance of reconciliation is known by all those who have been affected by the Troubles/Conflict and its legacy. For each and every person, that will mean something different. I want to engage with you so that the new Commission can be designed in the way that best serves the people of Northern Ireland.

Sir Declan Morgan

The Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery (ICRIR) will provide information to victims, survivors and their families about Troubles/Conflict-related deaths and serious injury and promote reconciliation.

The Commission was formed in December 2023. Sir Declan Morgan is our Chief Commissioner and Peter Sheridan is our Commissioner for Investigations.

The Commission is now developing its operating principles and investigative procedures, underpinned by three essential principles to the Commission’s approach:

  • Compliance with the ECHR;
  • Respect for the principles of the 1998 Belfast Good Friday Agreement; and
  • Focus on providing useful information to those affected by the Troubles/Conflict.

Our Code of Conduct sets out the Commission’s values and expectations for all staff. You can find out more about the Commission’s work in the Documents Library.

The Commission is recruiting further staff across a range of specialist areas. Find out what roles we are looking for on our Career Opportunities page, which is regularly updated with new roles.
