ICRIR External Advisory Group meets with senior leaders

The ICRIR External Advisory Group (EAG) met last week in Belfast as part of its ongoing advisory function to the Commission.
The EAG has an important role to play in providing expert advice and professional challenge to the Commission, with an international membership of the highest calibre in law enforcement, criminal justice, legal and trauma-informed practice.
EAG members engaged with senior ICRIR leaders and investigators about the status and resourcing of current cases, the Commission’s trauma and resiliency informed approach, engagement with wider society, and issues related to future legislative reform.
They discussed the breadth and complexity of requests coming into the Commission in its first year and the challenges and opportunities this presented.
Speaking afterwards, EAG interim Co-chairs Rob Beckley and Barbara Gray said:
“This was an important opportunity for EAG members to examine a range of the Commission’s work, including investigations, findings, legal and corporate issues.
“The EAG was impressed by the extent of the Commission’s activity to date and its potential ahead.
“We heard about a range of investigations, and the sensitive and hard work being invested by the Commission in serving victims, survivors, and families.
“While the Commission is at an early stage in its organisational development, we recognise and support the significant and continuing steps in establishing a capable workforce, victim centred approaches and effective delivery.”
