From 1 May 2024, we have the power to investigate deaths and serious injuries related to the Troubles/Conflict between 1 January 1966 and 10 April 1998. The Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery has welcomed the judgment by the Supreme Court in the case of Dillon et al, and the clarity it brings to the interpretation of Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Speaking following the ruling, Chief Commissioner Sir Declan Morgan said: “I and my fellow Commissioners welcome the Supreme Court’s judgment. Our central aim remains to uncover the truth for victims and survivors who have waited decades for answers regarding what happened to them or their loved ones during the Troubles/Conflict.
